Purpose

The headframe is a critical surface structure in mine construction, primarily designed to support the entire load of the hoisting system and to facilitate the vertical transport of ore, personnel, materials, and equipment. Located above the mine shaft opening, it suspends the head sheave, supports the running rails for cage or skip conveyance, and bears the self‑weight of the hoisting containers and wire ropes, as well as the substantial dynamic loads generated during operation. It features a distinctive aesthetic, a large span, considerable mass, a simple yet rational structural design, reduced construction volume, cost‑effectiveness, and advanced engineering technology.

 

Features

Robust and Durable Structure: Typically constructed with high-strength steel or reinforced concrete, these structures exhibit exceptional strength and stiffness, ensuring they can withstand prolonged operation under heavy loads.

Diverse configurations: Depending on mine‑site requirements, common structural types include A‑frame derricks, four‑column derricks, and floor‑mounted multi‑rope friction‑wheel towers, among others, to accommodate various hoisting methods and site conditions.

Comprehensive Hub: The headframe is not only a physical support structure for wire rope redirection and suspended loads, but also a comprehensive hub that ensures the safe and efficient operation of the entire mine hoisting system.
